Much has been written and said about London Air Services and in particular, its' President and architect, Mr. Wynne Powell. As President of London Drugs Limited, a very successful and rapidly expanding retail pharmacy chain, he recognized the need for a dedicated aircraft to maintain their standard of service in a very competitive industry. Mr. Powell used his strong accounting background and deep understanding of modern technology to spearhead a project to select the aircraft best suited for their purposes. His foresight lead to the acquisition of the first Learjet 45 and the rest, as they say, is history
The London Air Services fleet is managed by veteran aviator, Chris Simpson. Simpson has worked for London Air Services since 1999. His first position was Captain where he was responsible for the LAS training program, and in September 2004, he was promoted to Chief Pilot. Simpson began flying jet aircraft at Canada Jet Charters where he worked for 12 years before joining London Air Services. Employed as a First Officer, Simpson worked his way up to the position of Operations Manager before he finished at Canada Jet Charters in 1999. During his time at Canada Jet Charters, Simpson was also part of British Columbia's Air Ambulance Operation that saw him fly into remote locations and provide assistance to individuals in distress. Simpson earned his pilot's license in 1979 and he has not stopped flying since.
The London Air Services fixed wing division is managed by Gary Farn. He has over 30 years flying experience. They include working for a corporate flight department, commercial airline and charter company. He started his flying career in 1974 in Ontario. In 1979 Gary moved to BC to pursue a flying job with Airwest Airlines which later became Jazz. Farn has been flying jet aircraft since 1988. His experience with the Canfor Flight Department and Westjet Airlines brings to London Air Services a diverse background of knowledge. He was hired at London Air Services as a Captain in 2001.
The London Air Helicopter Division is managed by Dylan Thomas. Thomas began his flying career in the Canadian Air Force in 1991. In the Air Force he gained a broad experience in VFR and IFR flying. Thomas was selected to fly for the elite Special Operations Flight in support of JTF-2, working his way up to Flight Operations Officer. His experiences include VVIP missions, NVG operations, and a variety of classified counter-terrorism missions. Following Thomas 10 years in the military he returned home to Vancouver BC and joined Helijet International. Thomas rapidly worked his way up to the position of Training Officer responsible for 40 pilots. During his time at Helijet, Thomas was also a British Columbia Air Ambulance Captain, flying to the coastal communities and answering medevac calls day and night to accident sites from Tofino to Kamloops. Thomas brings a wealth of both coastal and mountain flying combined with scheduled passenger service and charter helicopter experience to London Air Services.
London Air Services Limited maintenance department is managed by Chris Lacroix. Chris started as a Lead AME with London Air Services in 2003 when the company received its second Challenger increasing the fleet to 4 aircrafts; Chris was then promoted to the position of Director of Maintenance in February 2005. After graduating from a 3 years College Aviation program in 1982, his career started, on small piston engine aircraft and took him from northern Quebec to northern Ontario where he held the position of Director of Maintenance and Operations Manager. Once in BC, Chris worked for Anderson Air for 9 years keeping a fleet of turbo-prop aircrafts available at all times for the British Columbia Air Ambulance Operation. Later Chris joined Pacific Aero Tech as a Senior/Lead AME for on-line engine maintenance and Lead hand for Challenger and Gulfstream100. Chris's wide range of experience on airframe, engines and avionics has helped him manage the increasing fleet of London Air Services Limited.
